InsDoc
InsDoc is Atiam Technologies' Document System. It consists of programs and application interfaces designed to support the definition, generation, and delivery of documents required for customer communications. Documents are defined as letters or other such correspondence delivered to recipients via a variety of supported delivery channels - including desktop delivery, email, and
local or network printers.
InsDoc supports the generation of documents in real-time (on demand) and in batch operations.
  • Documents generated in real-time are generally returned to the requestor's desktop, and can be viewed or printed from the desktop as required.
  • Batch generated documents are produced during the nightly processing cycle, and may be directed to network printers or a high-speed print environment. For high speed output, InsDoc can interface with Xerox or IBM AFP print facilities.
InsDoc also provides a web interface for managing InsDoc and performing document definition and design. InsDoc uses Microsoft Word for document definition, and an XML-based interface for populating the Word-produced template with application data.
InsDoc features include
  • The ability to define any number of document types, organized by user-defined Document Class; any number of Document Classes may be defined;
  • Support for multiple document templates for each defined document type; document templates can vary by language (a letter written in Spanish is a different Word document than one written in English), and can also vary by client;
  • Microsoft Word is used exclusively to define a document template; if you know Word, you can define a template capable of system-generation;
  • Support for unlimited definition of variable data (the system-generated information that is automatically inserted into documents)
  • Support for 'static data' - information that needs to be inserted into a document that is not customer dependent and is subject to infrequent change - such as return addresses
  • Support for user entered data at the time of document generation.
The Document Design Process
  • Define a 'Document Type'
  • Create a template (.doc file) containing
    • fixed text that prints as entered;
    • graphics and page design elements;
    • variable tags - placeholders for application data;
    • conditional tags, enabling document elements to be included or excluded as required.
  • Multiple templates may be created for a single Document Type, varying by Language or Client
Document Generation Options
  • Documents can be generated on-line by user request
  • Documents can be generated on-line by program request
  • On-line generated documents are returned to the desktop
  • batch generated documents can be printed on network printers or exported to high-speed print facilities
  • Other generation options are available
Additionally, InsDoc supports a fully-functional Document Archive, capable of reproducing any generated document at any time, on demand.
